Ken Scudder is a writer and communications consultant specializing in message development, communication training, writing and editing, and crisis communication.

For three years he worked on Capitol Hill as a Communications Director, first with Congressman Mike Honda of California, then Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida, and last as the Democratic Communications Director for the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee.

Prior to this, for 22 years he prepared corporate spokespeople, politicians, athletes, individuals, and heads of not-for-profits to be interviewed by the media; deliver presentations ranging from one-on-one meetings to keynote addresses; and communicate before, during, and after a crisis.

Ken has written speeches for company presidents and CEOs, as well as for speakers at other levels.  He has also written articles for numerous Public Relations journals and textbooks.  The book he co-wrote, World Class Communication: How great CEOs win with the public, shareholders, employees, and the media, was published by John Wiley & Sons, in October of 2012.

Ken was a co-founder of the boutique media training firm Virgil Scudder & Associates and had bottom-line responsibility for VS&A’s business operations, as well as the creation and coordination of its training programs.  He also was the primary writer and editor of the company’s website, newsletter, and blog.

Ken received a bachelor’s degree in English, with a concentration in Creative Writing, from the University of Chicago.  He is married and lives in Takoma Park, Maryland.
